A significant part of my work on Concord was in the creation of decal kits. These ranges from full material kits like the moss, to more normal focused decals like the metal damage and weathering. The decals shown here were created with Robot Ruins in mind, but I also considered their use throughout other maps, and tried to keep them semi universal within their material expression.

The plaster damage decals were a collaboration between Mak Malovic, Evan Liaw and myself. I created a set of shapes that our team needed, and then used Substance Designer to create different versions of damage or patches. Using these, and different modeling and material techniques, we created some reveal decals that went from plaster to Maks awesome stone blocks.

All of these were really fun to work on, especially the more 'weird spacey' metal weathering decals. I took inspiration from Kunrong Yaps concepts for this map, and tried to translate some of his sketchy lines into real surface expression. We took inspiration from animal skins and shells, and odd patterns that we found in our reference hunting. These were all made as normal only decals, so they could be placed on any surface without the need to make multiple color versions.
